Meet “Final Say” Personality Gary Mitchell,….Gary discovered his passion for writing at the age of 7, when a short story of a healing turtle won him his first award. The chapters of Mitchell’s childhood were short. He moved often and turned to pen and paper as his primary form of expression. In 1996, his family settled in Miami where at age 11, Mitchell wow’d his peers and teachers with his inspiring use of words through story telling. He continued to cultivate his skills in poetry, short stories and playing the piano throughout his teens.
As a successful young artist and creative thinker, Mitchell laced his love for music and words into lyrics, exploring songwriting and performing on stage during open mic nights. At 19, he was a member of the conscious rap group “Finish Line,” performing locally to raise awareness for abused women, education and politics. He spent the larger part of his 20’s writing songs for aspiring R&B and Hip Hop artists. After going through a blue period and observing the hardships of others, he returned to focus on his own endeavors. With great intuition and inspiration, Mitchell published his first book, “Distant Lover” in January of 2013, which received passionate reviews and acclaim.
Later, he went on to produce and co-host the popular radio show, “Chasing Cupid and Poetry.” The show dove into various critical topics including homosexuality, police brutality, obesity and the effect of social media on today’s youth. It featured notable interviews including some with hip hop legends, Kurtis Blow and Nas.
Mitchell took a break from radio to return to creative writing. Mitchell’s success as an author continued where he was invited to The Miami International Book Fair. He wrote and developed television and movie scripts which prepared him for his work on the major motion picture, “Walt Before Mickey,” a film based on the life of Walt Disney. Today, he is the deputy editor for the e-magazine, “Taste and Class Editorial” and is contracted with two modeling agencies. Mitchell has appeared in a number of commercials, TV shows and magazines. Mitchell lives in sunny South Florida, working on his second book, “The Trials of Mr. Right,” set for publication in early 2016. Check out Mitchell on “The Final Say” every Thursday 5pm-7pm (ET).
