Another sad day in the Hip Hop community, losing yet another solider in the rap game. Prodigy, one half of the rap duo “Mobb Deep” passed away at the age of 42 earlier this week. He was in Las Vegas performing at the “Art of Rap” tour with other legends in the game. After the concert he had to be hospitalized for complications caused by his sickle cell anemia.
The exact cause of death is still unknown at this time. Prodigy, AKA Albert Johnson, was born with sickle cell anemia, an inherited disease where the red blood cells are shaped like sickles, which can block blood vessels and stop the flow of oxygen through the body. A 90’s Hip Hop Icon with a catalog of hits, including one of my favorites “Shook Ones”. For you young folks that don’t know the true meaning of Hip Hop, then I suggest you listen to some Mobb Deep. Sleep in peace soldier, you will truly be missed.
