James “Redbeard” Smith has been a part of the hip-hop community for more than 30 years. Born in Mr. Vernon, New York, Redbeard’s love of hip hop grew on the streets of Mt. Vernon and the Bronx when he first heard “Rappers Delight” by The Sugar Hill Gang.
Redbeard started recording the dopest DJs on the radio in the 80s like DJ Red Alert, Marley Marl, Stretch & Papito, and Chuck Chill Out to see what the next big hip-hop record would hit the street. Redbeard developed a love for DJ’n and had to be the first one in the parks to play the latest hip-hop record.
Redbeard started going to local parties in Mt. Vernon and The Bronx just to watch DJ and MC battles. Redbeard started rapping in the early 90s when he moved to Miami. He started DJ’n more and was executive producing music.
Redbeard decided to take his 30-plus years of experience and create “The Street Corner” Radio Show for all the people in the culture missing the essence of the art. Redbeard’s attention has been on bringing the focus back to DJ’n, entertaining, being the MC (Master of Ceremony), and Breaking the hottest records for the streets. Redbeard nicknamed the show “The Home Of Hip Hop” and wants to bring the balance back to the culture with the freedom to make it happen.
