J.R. Ewing the Legend, who was born and raised in Miami, Florida, has been a staple in the music industry for sixteen years. When J.R. attended Florida A&M University in the early 2000s, he was surrounded by musicians like Smitty, Rico Love, and K. Michelle. In 2005, J.R. returned to Miami. To hone his craft and songwriting abilities, J.R. started working with Trac-Kings Productions. For several years after that, J.R. remained active in the Miami battle rap scene.
J.R. joined forces with partner G.O.P. to form the rap collective “Deuce Asylum” in 2009. “Welcome to The Office Vol. 1” is the mixtape that the group released. J.R. and producer Sean Thompson collaborated to make the underground album “Crescent Moon” in 2011. After that, J.R. took part in the brief reality show “Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is,” where he competed against other rappers from South Florida for cash. Even though the show was later canceled, J.R. discovered his passion for battle rap through it. J.R. later joined the “Art of War” battle league, where he finished with a 6-1 record. To establish himself, J.R. would battle throughout South Florida.
After some time, J.R. reunited with his childhood friend “Trace Bizzle” and the two founded “Cooler Headz Prevail” in 2018. Later, Trace Bizzle died in 2022. In 2024, J.R. collated their work into “Cooler Headz Prevail” vol. 1. J.R. continued to drop projects. “Lost and Found” and “Cold Summer” were two more projects that J.R. released in 2023.
J.R. recently dropped his new single “Bamboo” and is scheduled to drop his next solo album in the summer of 2025.
